Huskies season ends with a 7-2 loss to Fairhope
From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
MONTGOMERY –With a 46-10 record on the season, it’s hard to frame the Hewitt-Trussville softball season as anything other than a success. The quick exit from the state playoffs will leave a bad taste, but in time, the Lady Huskies will savor an outstanding campaign.
The day started on the wrong foot with a 9 a.m. 3-0 loss to Spain Park where offense was hard to come by.
The offense improved for the afternoon game against Fairhope with 7 hits, but the run production wasn’t there in the 7-2 loss.
Fairhope scored in the first inning, but the Huskies came back in the top of the third to tie the game 1-1. In the bottom of the same inning, Fairhope took a 3 run lead and never looked back. Another 3 runs for Fairhope in the 4th inning put the game out of reach for the run starved Huskies.
Tate Moseley went 2 for 3 from the plate and Anyce Harvey was 2 for 4. Molly Cobb and Hannah Borden each picked up a hit.
Hayden Neugent went 6 innings on the mound giving up 7 runs on 8 hits while striking out three.
Bella Wiggins, Samantha Yarbrough, and Lorna Agren all went 2 for 3 for the Pirates with Yarbrough collecting 3 RBI.
