From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
MOBILE –Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson thought it would be funny to mock Republican Congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw for losing his eye in combat while serving in the Middle East.
“You may be surprised to hear he’s a Congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie,” Davidson said. “I’m sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever.”
U.S. Representative Bradley Byrne (R) – Alabama, didn’t find the skit or the comments humorous and took to social media to express his displeasure.
“This is absolutely pathetic,” Byrne said via his Twitter account. “NBC should apologize immediately for attacking and mocking someone who served our country in combat. Just shows how out of touch the liberal elite are with the rest of America.”
Known in military circles as Lieutenant Commander Dan Crenshaw, the U.S. congressional candidate from Texas served five deployments overseas as a member of the SEAL team. He lost his eye in an IED blast during a mission in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
“Good rule in life: I try hard not to offend; I try harder not to be offended,” Crenshaw responded via social media. “That being said, I hope @nbcsnl recognizes that vets don’t deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes.”
