Be prepared, local businesses.
Hewitt-Trussville Middle School sixth-graders in Erin Gilchrist’s English classes are writing reviews about places, products and businesses around Trussville this week.
Gilchrist said the project entails students reviewing products and businesses with Husky Paws, with a rating system from one to five
. A five rating is the most excellent category, while the one rating is the most negative review.
More positive student reviews will be placed in store windows, businesses and other places around town as advertisement for the businesses, Gilchrist said. Other reviews may be written in online blogs or presented as online videos.
Students will review one book, place, product, business, store, restaurant or movie in Trussville. Sixth-graders will be learning about how to write opinion pieces, how to support ideas and thoughts with persuasive details, and to learn the needed skills that will allow them to write toward specific audiences. The pieces can be negative or positive.
Once the students’ rough drafts have been edited and enhanced, they are allowed to move forward with a final draft, which must be accompanied by a visual representation of some kind — including online blogs, YouTube videos, consumer reviews, Urbanspoon and posters hung in business windows.
