The Clay City Council on Monday accepted a bid for garbage pickup that includes curbside recycling
.
BFI Waste Systems, doing business as Republic Services, was re-awarded the garbage pickup bid over three other bidders. That company is currently the one running garbage pickup for the city.
Residents will now pay $13.65 per month, which includes mandatory recycling. Clay residents will keep the garbage cans they have now, and a separate bin for recycling will be distributed to them. Residents will be responsible for separating their recycling, and the public recycling bin at Clay City Hall will likely be removed.
Residents may also request special pink garbage cans, which benefit the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer research.
