TRUSSVILLE — Vestavia Hills took an early second quarter lead and never relinquished it, defeating Hewitt-Trussville 53-41 to claim the Bryant Bank Thanksgiving Classic championship Tuesday night.
Peyton Blaylock, the tournament’s most valuable player, scored a game-high 21 points for Vestavia Hills. Fifteen of those came in the first half. Blaylock scored Vestavia Hills’ first 10 points of the game.
Junior Cayla Dillard led Hewitt-Trussville (6-2) with nine points. Senior Skylar Reaves scored eight, sophomore Gabby Hill added seven and senior Elizabeth Brown chipped in with five.
Senior Morgan McLain scored four points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Senior Leigh McAnally scored four points and pulled down five rebounds.
Named to the all-tournament team from Hewitt-Trussville were Dillard, Hill and Bailey Berry.
Hewitt-Trussville defeated Dora 56-20 and Pelham 56-17 in its first two games of the tournament.
Pinson Valley defeated Pelham 46-43 to take third place in the tournament. The Lady Indians beat Mortimer Jordan 45-40 and lost to Vestavia Hills 34-31.
