BIRMINGHAM — The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a freezing rain advisory for Jefferson and St. Clair counties, which will be in effect from 3 a.m until 9 a.m. Monday.
Northerly winds will increase across north Alabama on Sunday with surface temperatures reaching freezing in the northwest Alabama counties by midnight Sunday.
The freezing temperatures will reach a line from Tuscaloosa, to Birmingham, to Gadsden by sunrise Monday morning.
While the northern most counties will see a changeover from rain to light snow and sleet overnight, the local area will see light rain become freezing rain reaching as far south as the I-20/59 corridor.
Accumulations are expected to be less than one tenth of an inch of freezing rain, but any accumulation could make driving conditions hazardous.
