CLAY – People expect big things from Clay-Chalkville’s rising junior wideout Nico Collins.
His rare combination of length and athleticism took Class 6A, Region 6 by storm in 2014. The first-year starter captured headlines and filed away multiple SEC scholarship offers with his nose for the end zone.
Everyone, including USA Today High School Sports, anticipates an even brighter second trek through the varsity schedule. The national publication listed him in a list of five rising junior wide receivers worth watching in 2015.
Joining him on the list is Tyjon Lindsey from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nev., Trevon Grimes from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Donovan Peoples-Jones from Cass Tech High School in Detroit, Mich., and Tee Higgins from Oak Ridge, Tenn.
“The 6-4 receiver had 39 catches for 805 yards and 15 touchdowns in his first year of varsity football last season. He’s big, makes tough catches and gets open easily,” said USA Today.
Collins is taking his time on the recruiting trail, as he currently holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Clemson just to name a few.
