PINSON — This week’s Pinson City Council meeting not only discussed the success of ongoing and recently completed projects, but may have confirmed rumors regarding the relocation and expansion of the library.
During the meeting it was announced that Erik Hendon of Hendon and Huckstein Architects, PC will attend the next council meeting to present plans for possibly converting the Rock School Center into a much larger library.
The library has shown such growth that at least three times in the last two years the council has had to vote to cede a little more of the City Hall building for the use and expansion of the library.
While this move has not been a secret as it is often hinted at or talked about openly by city officials ever since the purchase of the old school building, this is the first major step in that direction.
The council has shown a consistent track record of turning municipal properties into successful endeavors. The recently completed Bicentennial Park, and the recently acquired Pinson Youth Sports Complex have both been great successes according to Pinson Parks director Mike Sullivan, as well as residents who have shared their opinions with him.
“Bicentennial Park is absolutely hopping,” Sullivan said. “When I get there in the morning, there are already people on the playground and there are already people walking. When I’m there having lunch or answering calls, there are people there all the time. It has been a huge success and I hear nothing but positive things.”
