WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said he plans to return North Korea to the state sponsor of terror list Monday, according to NBC News.
“Today the United States is designating North Korea as a state sponsor of terror,” Trump said during a White House Cabinet meeting.
Trump said the reasons for this designation are North Korea’s nuclear threats as well as support of international terrorism.
According to the president the United States Treasury Department will announce additional “very large” sanctions on Pyongyang soon.
North Korea was added to the list in 1988 by the administration of Ronald Reagan, then removed in 2008 by the George W. Bush administration.
Iran, Sudan and Syria are the current nations on the list, which is administered by the State Department.
