ARGO — Argo residents will soon have a safe place to go during dangerous weather.
Monday, the Argo City Council heard from Eddie Culpepper Jr., president of Encompass 360 and grant writer, who shared the news of the grant.
“On Dec. 12, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded the City of Argo a Hazard Mitigation Grant in the amount of $238,263.00 for a city complex community safe room,” said Culpepper.
The project has a federal share of $178,697.00 and non-federal share of $59.566.00.
According to the state-sub-recipient agreement, “The S\sub-recipient will begin project work within 90-days of approval of the grant and complete all items of work within the specified period of performance (Dec. 12-Jul. 30, 2020) unless an extension is granted to extend the time frame.”
The safe room specifications include construction of an above ground, 28’ L x 26’ W concrete modular community safe room with a backup UPS battery system. The 505-square-foot area will provide tornado protection for up to 100 at-risk occupants and will be located at 100 Black Jack Road.
