From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
JEFFERSON COUNTY –Deputies are investigating a traffic accident that closed Highway 78 West this Thursday evening and may have put some Christmas presents in jeopardy of not making it to the recipients.
Just before 5 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a report of a traffic accident on Highway 78 West at the Five Mile Creek Bridge.
They arrived to find a box van had left the road and driven down an embankment into Five Mile Creek. The adult male driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
The truck had been contracted by FedEx to deliver packages. According to the Sheriff’s Office, several of the packages inside the truck were destroyed. FedEx was notified to pick up the packages that were not damaged.
The investigation is ongoing.
