BIRMINGHAM – A man has been charged in the killing of a man at a gas station in west Birmingham, according to a report by Carol Robinson.
The murder took place on Monday night when Bobby Cox, 23, allegedly shot Sheldon Watkins, 26, at a Chevron gas station. On that night, police from the west precinct responded to a call of someone being shot. When they arrived, they found Watkins suffering from several gunshot wounds.
Medics were called to the scene where they pronounced Watkins dead.
According to witness accounts, Cox walked into the gas station where Watkins was and the two began an argument. Cox then allegedly tackled Watkins and shot him with a handgun. Watkins was wounded and managed to step out of the station but was shot several more times.
Witnesses said that Cox kicked Watkins as he was lying on the ground. He then fled the scene but later turned himself in to police. Bystanders tried to assist Watkins with his injuries as police responded to the incident. The victim’s mother said that the conflict arose out of jealousy.
Cox is being held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
