BESSEMER – A woman has been charged by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office with the theft of $76,769.68 from the Bessemer Junior Service League.
According to authorities Stacey Ingram Green, 40, had been writing herself unauthorized checks from June 2016 to January 2018. On Jan. 19 the league contacted the sheriff’s office to report discrepancies in its bank records.
She is the wife of Vestavia Hills Fire Chief Marvin Green.
Detectives from the office questioned Green, who cooperated and admitted to writing the checks for herself and family members. She told officers that she was aware of wrongdoing but claimed that she did it in desperation due to financial troubles.
Green turned herself into the Jefferson County Jail in Bessemer where she was charged with theft of property in the first degree. She was released on a $10,000 bond pending court proceedings.
