BIRMINGHAM — Two people were killed this afternoon after a train hit their vehicle near the Birmingham-Lipscomb city line reports Carol Robinson.
The accident, involving a man and woman, occurred at Third and 15th Street railroad crossing.
Reports say that the impact of the collision pushed the couple’s vehicle at least 100 yards down the railroad track.
Amtrak released the following statement:
“Service on Amtrak train 19 has been temporarily suspended after an incident near Birmingham. The train came into contact with a vehicle. The incident happened at approximately 1:09 p.m. CT today. Local law enforcement is investigating. The train originated in New York.”
