The Birmingham Police Department reported that detectives have received a ruling in connection with a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 1, at approximately 7:20 p.m.

Police said officers from the West Precinct were dispatched to the 1705 52nd Street, Ensley to investigate a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located the victim in a grassy area suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue reported to the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital for treatment. The victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
Police identified the deceased as Terry Wayne Bonner Jr., 31, of Birmingham.
Investigators identified two subjects believed to be involved with this investigation.
The subjects were interviewed by BPD investigators. BPD Homicide Investigators presented the information gathered on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for review. Following the assessment of the information, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office ruled the shooting as justifiable, according to police.
No warrants will be pursued in this investigation.
