BIRMINGHAM – The victim of a shooting in Birmingham has now been identified.
The Birmingham Police Department has identified the victim as Jerrell Little, 29, of Birmingham.
East Precinct officers found Little on Thursday, March 12, at around 1 p.m. in the 7000 block of 1st Avenue South following the call of a person shot. Little was discovered lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue was called to the scene and transported Little to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Little succumbed to those injuries a short time later.
The Birmingham Police Department has opened a homicide investigation. In the early stages of that investigation, authorities learned that Little and a suspect were involved in a verbal altercation before Little was shot. Little attempted to flee on foot, but he collapsed before he was found by authorities.
According to the BPD, one suspect is in custody in connection to the homicide. The suspect has not been identified.
