LEEDS — A local gym is taking some time this week to honor the first responders of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
Workout Anytime owners Steven Elliott and Nick Washmuth are bringing back their Memorial Stair Climb Challenge this Friday, Sept. 11. Leeds firefighters will be in attendance at the gym, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Leeds Fire Department.
Elliott, Washmuth, the firefighters and local community set a step goal of 2,071 — roughly the same amount of steps in the World Trade Center — to remember the fallen. Participants can also strap a tank on during their workout to further commemorate the efforts of first responders 19 years ago.
The event, which begins at 8 a.m., will be open to the public. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase supporting local small businesses and specialty t-shirts will be available for $15.
The gym says its raffle will include a few one-year, six-month and three-month membership prizes. In addition, Chick-fil-A will be selling sandwiches during lunchtime and Steel City Pops will be selling popsicles onsite between 3-5 p.m. A portion of those proceeds will also benefit the Leeds Fire Department.
