LEEDS — Multiple agencies are searching for a suspect in St. Clair County, after a burglary call in Hueytown led to a high-speed police chase and shooting, on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020.
Hueytown Police responding to a burglary in progress at Birmingham Auto Auction were shot at, according to multiple reports. The suspects fled and led police on a chase through Jefferson and St. Clair Counties.
Birmingham Police, Pell City Police, Riverside Police and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the chase.
During the pursuit down I-59/20, the suspects fired at Hueytown Police and Birmingham Police and one Birmingham Police vehicle crashed. No injuries were reported, according to Birmingham Police.
When the vehicle the suspects were traveling in entered St. Clair County, deputies deployed spike strips and stopped the vehicle. One suspect was taken into custody, and another fled on foot.
Carol Robinson with al.com said Riverside Police vehicle was also struck during the incident.
A portion of the interstate was shut down during and after the chase.
