BIRMINGHAM — An innocent person was hurt when a car being chased by troopers hit another vehicle on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said troopers tried to pull over a black Dodge Challenger, around 4 p.m. The car was on Interstate 22, traveling east near the 76-mile marker.
“The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and continued at a high rate of speed toward Birmingham and exited at the 91-mile marker onto Cherry Avenue,” Trooper Justin O’Neal said in a statement. “The driver continued to travel down Cherry Avenue at a high rate of speed until he collided with an SUV at the intersection Cherry Avenue and Heflin Avenue.”
One person in the SUV was hurt. No details were provided on the condition of that person.
The Challenger continued for another mile, according to O’Neal. The vehicle eventually left the roadway and came to a stop. Four people inside the Challenger were taken into custody for further investigation.
Those people have not been identified and charges have not been announced.
