UPDATE: Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a shooting outside a Shell gas station in Birmingham.
According to a release from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, 40-year-old Ogle Terrance Avery was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital on Wednesday at 8:43 a.m., shortly after sustaining gunshot wound injuries in west Birmingham.

BIRMINGHAM — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that took place in Birmingham on Wednesday morning.
The Birmingham Police Department says officers responded to a call of a person shot at 800 3rd Avenue West at approximately 8:18 a.m. on Feb. 17. Upon arrival, officers discovered the unnamed victim lying in the roadway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported the victim to UAB Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. BPD says the victim will be identified after the next of kin is notified.
According to the department’s media release, the preliminary investigation indicates the victim was involved in an altercation in the parking lot of a Shell gas station prior to being shot. The suspect fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival. There are no suspects in custody at this time.
