UPDATE: The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the missing hiker was rescued Monday with the help of the Vestavia Hills’ Swift Water Rescue team.
Just before 1 p.m. Monday, first responders made verbal contact with the woman. Jefferson County Deputies swam to make physical contact with the woman and stayed with her until she could be lifted to safety.
The hiker was transported for medical treatment and is expected to recover.

KIMBERLY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing female hiker in Kimberly.
Jefferson County Deputies, K-9 Units, Star 1 and personnel from Kimberly Fire and Rescue searched until late in the night but have been unable to locate the victim. A K-9 deputy was injured during the search, due to the rugged terrain.
