Robert W. McKeen of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., known as Colonel Bob by friends and grandchildren, passed away on October 10, 2021.
Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on November 10, 1939, Bob was 81-years-old. He attended Haverhill High School and New Hampton Prep in New Hampshire. Bob graduated from Gettysburg College, Pennsylvania, in 1963.
With Vietnam calling, he enlisted in the United States Army shortly after graduation. He attended boot camp at Ft. Dix, NJ; OCS at Ft.Benning, Ga; and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, Infantry in February 1964. An Army Airborne Ranger, he subsequently served 27 years in the Army, and 31 months combat duty in Vietnam, retiring in 1990. He was a well decorated veteran, with two combat valor awards, and numerous meritorious citations.
He leaves behind two adult children and two grandchildren. Son, Richard McKeen of Birmingham and daughter, Susan Bruno (Sam) of Vestavia Hills, granddaughters Sara Bruno and Katie Bruno both of Vestavia Hills. He is also survived by girlfriend and companion Patricia Brown as well numerous friends and fellow veterans in New Smyrna Beach.
A memorial service is planned with the time and date to be determined.
