BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the 17-year-old victim of a Friday, January 28, 2022 shooting on the north side of Birmingham.
At approximately 11:40 p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of 16th Street North on report of shots fired. Officers arrived on the scene and observed multiple spent shell casings in the roadway.
While on the scene, officers learned Reed was transported to UAB Hospital via private vehicle. Shortly after the victim’s arrival, UAB Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was traveling inside of a vehicle in the 2900 block of 16th Street North when shots were fired in the area,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated via a press release. “The victim was fatally wounded by gunfire while he was inside of a vehicle. At this time, it is unknown if the victim was targeted.”
