HOOVER — Hewitt-Trussville baseball suffered its first loss of the year over the weekend as the Huskies went 3-1 finished second at the Perfect Game High School Showdown in Hoover. The Huskies are now 9-1 overall.
The Huskies opened the event on Thursday night with a 13-0 win over South Panola (MS). Riley Quick pitched a complete game and struck out seven batters. Baker Green recorded three hits. Brett Moseley had two hits and drove in two runs. Jack Ollis had two hits and two RBI’s. Carson Wideman had two hits and drove in three runs. Brooks McRae and Quick also drove in two runs each.
On Friday, the Huskies won a pair of games. First, they beat Mount Paran Christian (GA) 4-0.
Green pitched a one-hit, complete game shutout, striking out eight batters. Ethan Duhon, Kurt Kizer, and Quick all had hits.
Later Friday night, the Huskies defeated Helena 4-2. Logan Phillps was the winning pitcher as he pitched six innings in relief and struck out nine batters. Moseley had two hits and scored twice. Green drove in two runs. Matt Miller also drove in a run.
HT fell to Central Phenix City 7-4 in the championship game. Miller and Kizer had RBI’s in the loss.
