CLAY — Clay City Manager Ronnie Dixon reported on Thursday, March 24, that the city’s account balances are the same and in strong condition despite high fuel cost.
“We are holding our own, although fuel costs are almost doubled from month over month to year to year, so we are being very careful with the amount of fuel that we are using in Public Works,” Dixon said.
Dixon also mentioned that it would be impossible to repave the city’s roads at this time due to the increasing costs of fuel and inflation.
“Anytime your fuel costs are high, that means asphalt is high. It’s petroleum-based, so everything that you do in paving is more expensive,” Dixon said.
Dixon said the city will currently repair roads but not repave any roads right now.
The city’s current balances are:
- General Fund – $1,906,778.99
- Vehicle registration – $21,664.52
