From The Tribune staff reports
BIRMINGHAM — Kenleigh Cahalan has been very good for a very long time. As an eighth grader, she played on the 2019 Hewitt-Trussville softball team that won a 7A state title. She helped with the title again in 2021 as a sophomore. As a junior, she led the Huskies back to the 7A finals.
Cahalan has been The Tribune Player of the Year and the Alabama Sports Writers 7A Player of the Year for 2022, and at a Sunday, June 12 banquet to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ASWA in Birmingham, she was named the ASWA’s “Miss Softball,” signifying the top player in the state.
And she’s still got one more season to go in a Huskies uniform.
Cahalan is the first Hewitt-Trussville player to win the award.
