Shirley Ann Wortham, 84, was called home by her Lord on July 11, 2022, at UAB Palliative Care Unit in Birmingham, Alabama. She was born on July 30, 1937, in Shelbyville, Tennessee.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-Charles Wortham, and her faithful friends, Anita Paduano and Luna Shirley. Shirley is survived by her niece, Drue Johnson (Maynard), and other nieces and nephews, as well as faithful friends Pepper Warrens and Barbara Shirley Leonard (Lester).
Shirley graduated from high school in Nashville, Tennessee. She then joined the women’s Marine Corps, where she served for nine years in numerous positions. After leaving USMC, she went to work for Hartford Insurance, where she excelled in many positions later became a supervisor of a large claims department. She was proud that she was able to retire at the age of 52 and enjoy life with family and friends. Shirley was a caring person, and she gave to many that were in need. She shared her sweet personality to others, and she loved music.
Celebration of Life was held on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens in Trussville, Alabama. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m., followed by a service and then a graveside burial at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens.
The family and friends would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Palliative Care Unit in Birmingham for their excellent care for Shirley. A very special thanks to her dedicated caregiver, Sharon Gray.
