Earlier in the evening, the Clay-Chalkville Lady Cougars lost to Pell City in a heartbreaker, 57-54.
The Cougars trailed by one point at halftime, however, the Lady Panthers pushed their lead to as much as nine points in the second half as Clay-Chalikville fought valiantly from behind.
The Lady Cougars failed to take advantage of several opportunities to tie the game or take the lead, including struggling from the free throw line and getting into foul trouble as the Lady Panthers held on for the win.
“Foul trouble killed us tonight,” said Lady Cougars Head Coach Kevin Connor. “Also, our free throws have been really bad the last three games. We’ve gotten away with it because we’re able to guard a little bit. We work on it every day, but it’s something we have to be able to do when it counts.”
“We fought our way back into it, we just couldn’t overcome the free throws and the foul trouble,” Connor added.
With the loss, the Lady Cougars fall to 8-3 and are scheduled to host Center Point on Thursday, Dec. 15.
