GARDENDALE – The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office reported that a 50-year-old Warrior woman died in Gardendale Wednesday morning, Feb. 15, after the Toyota RAV4 she was driving was involved in a collision with a tractor trailer.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Senior Trooper Justin O’Neal released the following statement Wednesday evening:
“A two-vehicle crash at approximately 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, has claimed the life of a Warrior woman. Kimberly D. Mahaffey, 50, was fatally injured when the 2002 Toyota Rav 4 she was driving struck a 2007 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Terrell L. Griffin, 48, of Summertown, Tenn. Mahaffey was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash, which occurred on Interstate 65 near the 272 mile marker, approximately one mile north of Gardendale, in Jefferson County. A juvenile passenger in the Toyota was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.”
