BRIGHTON – The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified a Hueytown man who lost his life in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident in Brighton yesterday.
According to Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates, El Destry Demetrese Thomas, 50, was the lone rider of a motorcycle involved in a motorcycle-pedestrian collision at the 4700 block of Main Street, Brighton, Alabama 35020.
“Following the initial pedestrian collision, the decedent lost control of the motorcycle and struck a utility pole,” Yates said. “The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the wreck and subsequent death.”

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported yesterday that at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, officers were dispatched to the 4700 block of Main Street in Brighton to assist with a single vehicle motorcycle accident.
“According to reports from witnesses, a female and her child were crossing the street after the child was dropped off by his bus,” Sgt. Joni Money stated. “A motorcycle traveling on Main Street struck the female. The male driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The female sustained critical injuries and was transported to UAB Hospital, while her child was not injured.”
