BIRMINGHAM – A Birmingham man was shot and killed on a front porch after suspects followed actual target of attack back to the residence on Friday, May 12, 2023.
At around 3:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of 19th Street North on a report of a person shot.
Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim, George Williams Jr., 63, of Birmingham lying on a front porch suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests a friend or family member of the victim was involved in a verbal argument with a group of suspects at a separate location.
The group of suspects followed the victim’s friend or family member to the 1500 block of 19th Street North. A suspect(s) fired shots and struck the victim. The victim was sitting on the front porch, and police officials believe he was an innocent bystander.
There is no one in custody.
