BIRMINGHAM – The Red Cross announced on June 7 that a shortfall in blood donations last month could stress the American Red Cross blood supply.
The Red Cross collected over 26,000 fewer blood donations than needed in May to meet the needs of patients. Platelet donors are especially needed at this time.
June 14 is World Blood Donor Day, a day meant to raise awareness of the need for a safe, diverse and stable blood supply and to recognize volunteer blood donors. The American Red Cross said that this is a perfect time to make a donation and help ensure that there is not a shortage.
In thanks for taking time to help, the Red Cross announced that anyone who donates platelets or plasma to the American Red Cross from June 1-30 will receive a $10 gift card by email to a merchant of their choice. Those who give throughout June will also be automatically entered for a chance to win a backyard theater package.
Details for both offers can be found by clicking the link here.
There are many opportunities coming through June in Jefferson County to donate.
The American Red Cross will be in Trussville at the Trussville Civic Center on June 27. For a full list of dates and locations, as well as information on how to schedule an appointment, click the link here.
