BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham police department (BPD) is investigating after a two-year old was grazed in a shooting that sent three people to the hospital including a teen on Thursday, June 22.
Shortly after 6 p.m., officers arrived on the scene and found a adult woman inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers then located a two-year-old girl who appeared to have been grazed by a bullet.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and then transported the woman to UAB Hospital. BFR transported the child to Children’s Hospital.
The adult female has life-threatening injuries. The two-year-old child suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
While officers were on the scene, a 16-year-old male showed up at Children’s Hospital suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is believed to have been involved in the initial incident.
Investigators believe the 16-year-old was with a party who was involved in a verbal argument with the adult female. Shots were exchanged between the adult female and the 16-year-old juvenile. The two-year-old child was an innocent bystander.
There are no additional persons in custody.
