Boys: The 7-3 Huskies lost to Ramsay 53-35 last Thursday.
The Huskies host Oxford Tuesday night.
“I think the after ten games I am fairly happy about where we are,” said Hewitt head coach Jeremy Monceaux.
“Every game we have learned a little more about our strengths, our weaknesses and the areas we need to improve moving forward,” he said.
“We have a very inexperienced basketball team so the challenge to our team right now is to be intentional about learning and growing from every performance.”
“We are 7-3 and have shown some signs of have a chance to be a tough basketball teams, but we have some area’s that we really need to improve in if we want to become a team that can be a tough out for someone late in the season.”
Reid Stodgehill is the Huskies leading scorer and rebounder. Lake Williams is the leader in assists.
Girls: The Lady Huskies saw their record improve to 8-3 after a 65-30 win over Ramsay on the road last Thursday.
The Lady Huskies host Oxford Tuesday afternoon.
Jordan Hunter leads the team in scoring with 21.3 points per game, assists with 6.1 assists per game and steals with 3.2 steals per game.
Ashlyn Howard leads the team in rebounds with 7.9 rebounds per game
Clay-Chalkville
Boys: The Cougars improved their record to 7-3 with wins against Spain Park and Fultondale last week.
The Cougars travel to Shades Valley Tuesday night.
“We have played nine tough opponents with different styles of play, with four of the nine being 7A schools,” said Cougar head coach Chris Richardson.
“Due to injuries and one of the best football programs in the state, we have yet to see our full roster on the floor,” he said.
“The early season has been great for our younger guys because experience is a huge part of success.”
Devon McKinnon leads the team with 19 points per game. He is shooting 42% from behind the three-point line.
Kevin Kirk Jr. leads the team with 5 rebounds per game and 2.6 steals per game.
Girls: The Lady Cougars stand at 9-1 on the season with blowout wins over Spain Park and Fultondale last week.
The Lady Cougars travel to Shades Valley Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars are outscoring their opponents by almost 24 points per game through their first ten games.
“We have had a good start to our season. We are currently 9-1 with some wins over some really good teams,” said head coach Kevin Connor.
“We won the Mountain Brook Thanksgiving Tournament against a quality field,” he said.
“We have a challenging schedule which should help us in preparation for area play in January.”
Kameron Sanders leads the team in scoring with 13.6 points per game and 3.4 assists per game.
Brooklyn Phillips is averaging 13 points per game.
Kamoriah Gaines averages 11.9 points per game and leads the team with 4.9 rebounds per game.
Shades Valley
Boys: The Mounties defeated Pleasant Grove by a score of 50-45 Friday night. The Mounties stand at 4-5 on the season.
The Mounties host Clay-Chalkville Tuesday.
Coach Audwin Howard is optimistic about his team despite their record.
“Growing pains,” he said. “We’ve led at some point in the second half of every game we’ve played so far.”
He continued, “I would prefer to go through this right now rather than in January and February.”
“By then we should have this thing figured out,” he said.
“Our schedule is very challenging, playing tough, well-coached teams, which I believe prepares us for area play and postseason.”
Sophomore Jeremy Chatman leads the Mounties in scoring with 14.1 points per game.
Junior Rashad Bryant is averaging 11.1 rebounds per game and sophomore Jeremiah Williams is averaging five assists per game.
Girls: The Lady Mounties are 2-8 on the year after falling to Pleasant Grove Friday.
The Lady Mounties host Clay-Chalkville Tuesday.
“The season hasn’t quite gone as we have anticipated,” said head coach Gary Ferguson. “We’ve played a lot of heavy hitters early.”
“Most of our opponents this year were in the Final Four or Elite 8 on last year,” he said.
“We’ve been in most games this year but we haven’t quite found our niche.”
“We have a few players that were injured on last year who have returned and we have a couple of new players.” Ferguson said.
“We are close to figuring this puzzle out and thankful thatrea play doesn’t start until January.”
James Madison commit Angela Williams is averaging 17 points, 15 rebounds, 8 steals, 4 assists and 1 block per game for Valley.
Center Point
Boys: The Eagles remain winless at 0-7 after falling to McAdory Thursday night.
The Eagles host Wenonah Thursday.
“The season hasn’t started the way we planned it,” said Eagles head coach Kelvin Lett. “We are still trying to gel.”
“I really appreciate the effort that the players are giving everyday,” he said. “They are working hard to learn a new system and a new coach.”
“I am really enjoying seeing their progress,” the new head coach said.
“I’m also really proud of our support system; from the parents to administrators to the student body and staff, everyone is on board and bringing positive energy.”
Mekhi Brown leads the team with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 2 steals per game
Ramoine Taylor leads the team with 3 steals per game and is the second leading scorer with 13 points per outing.
Khryston Travis leads the team with 5 assists per game and 11 points per game.
Girls: The Lady Eagles are on a two-game winning streak after wins over Carver and McAdory last week and are 2-6 on the season.
The Lady Eagles host Fairfield Tuesday night.
Coach Sammeika Thomas is optimistic about the rest of the season. “’It’s not how you start, but how you finish,” she said.
