BIRMINGHAM – The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to an Assault Investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, at the Roebuck Walmart (9248 Parkway East).
The suspect has been identified as Tywonte Jackson, (25), B/M, of Center Point, Alabama. On Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, Jackson was booked into the Jefferson County Jail under a $30,000 bond.
“Just after 1:30 p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call at the Roebuck Walmart,” BPD Officer Truman Fitzgerald said. “Officers arrived on the scene and then located an adult male inside the store who was suffering from a gunshot wound. Two Birmingham officers, who were at Walmart for a community event, took the suspected shooter into custody just outside the store.”
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officers transported the suspect to BPD Headquarters for questioning by BPD Felony Assault detectives; he was then transported to the Birmingham City Jail and placed under a 48-Hour Felony Extension.
Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Assault 1st Degree.
