Birmingham – The 2023 indoor track season got into full swing this past weekend.
The Holiday Invitational took place at the Birmingham CrossPlex this past Saturday. The meet was divided into two sessions.
Hewitt-Trussville and Shades Valley/JCIB competed in the evening session.
Hewitt brought home nine medals and a new school record.
Husky first-year head coach Jamey Curlee was pleased with his team’s effort.
“The kids have been working hard and are getting better each week,” he said.
“The girls are ready to roll, currently ranked second in 7A, and are looking to get a blue trophy come February Indoor State.”
Curlee has had to wait for the football season to end before having a complete boys team.
“The guys are rebuilding and will have a better meet next time when we can get our football players out,” he said.
“We had lots of PRs last Saturday and are definitely trending upwards.”
Curlee takes over from Tom Esslinger, who left for an assistant track position at Samford University.
“Having to fill in for Tom Esslinger is pretty big shoes to fill,” he said.
Senior Kinley Harris, a Mississippi College signee, set a new school record in the 3200 meters at 11:20.
