BIRMINGHAM — According to Sgt. LaQuitta Wade of the Birmingham Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Monday, December 18, 2023.
It is the fourth shooting death in Birmingham since Saturday. The victim has been identified as Sheldon Deion Henry Jr., 20, of Center Point
At approximately 7:17 a.m., Wade said north precinct officers were responding to a call of a person down in the 300 Block of 2nd Avenue North.
Officers arrived on the scene and observed an adult male lying unresponsive next to a commercial building. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests a passerby saw the victim lying on the side of the commercial building and called 911 Emergency services.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office arrived on the scene and determined the victim had been shot.
There is no one in custody.
On Saturday, Dec. 16, BPD answered three homicide calls. The first came at 2:50 a.m.
A shootout in Birmingham’s Lakeview entertainment district early Saturday morning left one man dead, another with life-threatening wounds and a food truck and multiple vehicles with damage from gunfire.
The second shooting was reported around noon when the Pita Stop restaurant owner was involved in a shooting that left a restaurant customer from Pinson dead, according to Wade. The shooting occurred inside Pita Stop near UAB Highlands Hospital on the Southside.
Wade said the third call on Saturday came at 5:32 p.m. when neighbors reported gunshots in the 1200 block of Princeton Ave. Officers arrived and found an adult male dead from gunshot wounds inside the residence.
