BIRMINGHAM – A three-year-old boy died in his Birmingham home yesterday, Dec. 21, in the 11 o’clock hour, after sustaining a gunshot wound.
East Precinct officers responded to a call of a toddler shot in the 7500 Block of 2nd Avenue North. There they found Kacey Jackson, 3, who had been shot inside his family residence.
“Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive, inside a residence, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” BPD Sgt. Laquitta Wade said. “The preliminary investigation suggests the parent of the victim called 911 Emergency Services. The parent stated the victim was suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.” ”
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and pronounced Jackson deceased at 11:44 a.m.
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting an unclassified death investigation and stated that they do had persons of interest for questioning.
“An autopsy will be performed to better understand the manner of death in this case,” said Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates.
