BIRMINGHAM — Police in Birmingham reported that a juvenile had been shot. Officers arrived to find a 12-year-old suffering from an accidental gunshot wound.
Birmingham police were led to an alley when they arrived on the scene. They located a 12-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound.
Jefferson County Chief Deputy Bill Yates identified the victim as Jamycah Ramone Frazier-Turner, 12, of Adamsville.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported the juvenile to Childrens Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
“We believe he was at a family friend’s house and he was handling a firearm,” Fitzgerald said. “While handling the firearm, he may have accidentally shot himself. Currently, we do not believe anyone else shot the victim.”
The Jefferson County Coroner will perform an autopsy to determine the manner of death.
