BIRMINGHAM – The Hewitt-Trussville wrestling team finished third at the AHSAA 7A duals wrestling meet.
The Huskies won the consolation match over Smiths Station 54-18. The Huskies started off by winning eight matches to start the match.
Hewitt lost to eventual state champion Huntsville 36-30 in the semi-finals.
Hewitt kept it close with wins by Ian Hodgin, Jacob Triplett, Charlie Buttiker, Delvecchio Alston, Zack Chatman and Clark Box.
“I am very proud of our guys,” said Hewitt head coach Chris Pike.
“They stepped up over the last few weeks and defeated three of the top five teams in the state from last year and almost defeated the defending dual state champs Huntsville High School.”
“They bounced back to defeat Smiths Station 54-18 to finish 3rd in the duals state tournament,” Pike said.
“We are not satisfied with third, but it is a great accomplishment,” he said. “We will use this to fuel us in our quest to try and win the traditional state tournament in February.”
“I believe in our guys,” he said.
