LEEDS — A Wedowee woman is behind bars after police in Leeds made a traffic stop that took more than a pound of methamphetamine of the street.
On Saturday, Feb., officers with the Leeds Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 6700 block of Parkway Drive.
During the traffic stop, officers developed probable cause to search the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, officers located approximately 1.01 pounds of Methamphetamine.
The single occupant of the vehicle, Andrea Nichole Mangina of Wedowee, AL, was charged with drug trafficking and obstructing governmental operations with a total bond of $201,000.
She is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail.
“It is believed that Ms. Mangina traveled to Birmingham to purchase the Methamphetamine and was on her way back towards Wedowee when officers encountered her,” Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin said. “We are extremely grateful for the officers efforts, which prevented over a pound of methamphetamine from hitting the streets.”
Irwin said he was extremely proud of his officers and the effort they put into law enforcement and keeping the community safe.
“It is obvious that the city of Leeds and the areas surrounding Leeds are safer and it is not a safe place for individuals who intend on breaking the law,”
Irwin said. Anyone with information on any criminal activity are encouraged to contact the Leeds Police Department at 205-699-2581.
