TRUSSVILLE — Since the coronavirus pandemic began to impact small businesses in March, the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce has been working to create opportunities for area businesses in need. The chamber and Trussville Downtown Merchants are now coming together to put an emphasis on shopping local to help ease the pain caused by months of revenue loss.
“Live Big, Shop Small Days” will be June 11 – 20, in Trussville.
Greg Carroll, the owner of Carroll Pharmacy, is part of the Trussville Downtown Merchants group. Carroll said his business and surrounding small businesses are ready to take advantage of the promotion of their goods and services.
“Many of us in the Trussville Downtown Merchants group are small business owners, and we’ve all been affected financially and otherwise by the pandemic,” said Carroll.
Every dollar and every card swipe is important for shops and restaurants in the city.
“This is our big chance to let everybody know we’re still here and ready to serve,” Carroll said.
The Trussville City Council passed a proclamation recognizing “Live Big, Shop Small Days”. Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Director June Mathews is pleased to know the council recognizes small businesses are an important part of everyday life in Trussville.
“According to a proclamation recently adopted by Trussville’s city council, Trussville’s small businesses are a major source of revenue and other forms of support for schools, parks, city services and other quality of life amenities,” Mathews said. “They also create jobs, boost the local economy and foster a sense of belonging within the community.”
Mathews said it is important for the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Trussville Downtown Merchants group to come together to do all they can to make the best out of a difficult time.
Organizers of “Live Big, Shop Small” not only hope local business owners will finally get a chance to see regular customers, but they also hope the businesses gain new customers.
