TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Police Department arrested two people on drug and theft charges on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, after a shoplifting complaint.
Officers responded to Walmart in Trussville Crossings around 5 p.m. Lionel Lee Morris, 53, of Mobile, and Charleana Marsha Fortune, 36, of Birmingham, were accused of shoplifting more than $85 worth of merchandise by slipping them through self-checkout without scanning.
As officers were arresting Fortune, they searched her purse and said they found heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
When officers arrived at the Trussville City Jail with Morris, they said they found heroin inside a dollar bill in his pocket.
On Friday, July 17, both suspects were transferred to the Jefferson County Jail.
Fortune was charged with theft of property fourth degree, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana second degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $10,900.
Morris was charged with theft of property fourth degree and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Fortune and Morris are both considered innocent until proven guilty.
