ADAMSVILLE — The fourth-ranked Pinson Valley Indians survived a scare on Friday night in Adamsvile.
Pinson Valley surrendered 492 yards of offense on 85 snaps, but held on to beat Class 6A, Region 6 foe Minor 33-28.
Virginia Tech commit Kenji Christian went for exactly 200 yards rushing on 16 calls for the Tribe. The senior provided long touchdown rushes of 40 and 68 yards in the win.
First-year Pinson Valley quarterback Zach Pyron finished 13 of 21 passing for 221 yards, two scores and an interception. The righty started with a 27-yard strike to Micah Woods to even the game at 7-all early in the second quarter. His second score traveled 12 yards to Ga’Quincy “Kool-Aid” McKinstry, giving the Indians a 26-21 advantage late in the third quarter.
McKinstry went home with three grabs for 81 yards and the go-ahead score.
Pinson Valley led 13-7 at the half, but fell behind 21-20 late in the third following a 24-yard pitch and catch from Jalaunte Rodgers to Daniel Parks. Rodgers threw for 196 yards and two scores in the loss. Parks pulled in 12 receptions for 120 yards and the score.
Minor (3-1, 1-1) running back Alex Glass ran it 15 times for 172 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown.
The win improves Pinson Valley to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Class 6A, Region 6 play. The Indians will stay in league play next week when Jackson-Olin comes to town.
