TRUSSVILLE — Both Alabama and Jefferson County have seen steadily declining COVID-19 numbers for months. But locally, the 35173 zip code which encompasses most of Trussville, has seen a surge over the last 14 days.
According to the JCDH, 132 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the past two weeks, in the 35173 zip code.
Alabama has seen a substantial drop in COVID-19 cases. Statewide, the Alabama Department of Public Health said 140,160 people have tested positive for COVID-19. There has been a substantial drop in Alabama since July 7. Confirmed hospitalizations are currently at the lowest level since June 28, at 716.
New cases in Jefferson County have been in steady decline since the week of July 12. New weekly cases peaked at 2,000 in July. According to the most recent data from JCDH, new cases are down to 791.
But locally, zip code 35173 leads Jefferson County in new cases over the last 14 days and posted the highest per capita rate for COVID-19 positive cases. The rate per 10,000 people within the zip code testing positive increased to 415.74.
The second highest rate is in the region with the zip codes 35209 and 25229, which is includes parts of Homewood and Birmingham. That number is 354.26
