PINSON — Monday was good to head coach Darrell Barber and his seventh-ranked Pinson Valley boys basketball team.
Barber started the day with an important coin toss victory over Clay-Chalkville, settling a two-way tie for the top seed in the upcoming Class 6A, Area 12 tournament. The Indians (18-3, 5-1) will now host 4-seed Mortimer Jordan in the tournament opener on Wednesday, Feb. 10. The No. 5-ranked Cougars (15-4, 5-1) will begin tournament play that evening at home against 3-seed Gardendale.
The winners of those games will advance to the area championship game on Saturday, Feb. 13 and also secure a place in the Class 6A sub-regional round on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
Barber and the boys wrapped up their Monday with a regular season-ending win over Hueytown 63-46. Pinson Valley was led by the backcourt trio of Moe Calloway (14 points), JoJo James (12 points) and Joshua Williams (10 points).
Junior Isaiah Sims took five charges for the Tribe on Monday night.
