BESSEMER — An Alabama inmate has died from what authorities are calling natural causes.
Donald Lewis Owen, who was incarcerated at William Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, was pronounced dead by the prison’s medical staff at 1:51 a.m. on Monday. The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Alabama Department of Corrections — Intelligence & Investigations.
According to a release from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Owen was serving a life sentence for a 1981 murder conviction from Mobile County. He was 86.
