From The Tribune staff reports
BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Department of Health regularly inspects establishments in Jefferson County where food is prepared or sold for human consumption.
Two types of inspections, scored and alternative (non-scored), are performed throughout the year. This information is presented by the Tribune in the spirit of public safety. These inspection scores are directly taken from the Jefferson County Department of Health.
The Tribune updates these scores every week once new scores are posted online. If you see a score that you believe is in error, please contact hannah.caver@trussvilletribune.com.
Food scores vary and the overall score can be determined by a variety of factors, including cleanliness and food storage temperatures. The inspection and regulation of restaurants and other food service facilities in Alabama is the responsibility of the Alabama Department of Public Health environmental staff at the county health departments and the Division of Food, Milk, and Lodging (FML). The county health departments enforce rules for establishments such as restaurants, grocery stores, and convenience stores.
