CLAY — The Clay City Council last week amended an ordinance regarding major home occupations.
The ordinance puts a stop to larger scale home-based businesses such as daycares. Daycares were a special exemption under the old ordinance, but historically home daycare licenses have been denied by the Clay City Council.
Another type of business that will be affected by the amendment will be home-based online retail. According to Councilman Ricky Baker, neighborhoods in Clay could simply not handle the additional traffic of delivery trucks making frequent stops in a residential area.
The Clay Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing about the ordinance amendment March 20. The commission then recommended eliminating “Day Care Home” and “Major Home Occupations” as special exceptions use to the city council.
