LEEDS — The tournament is the Greenwave Classic, and the Leeds baseball team made sure the home team took care of business by winning a pair of games on Monday, whipping Ashville 12-0 and St. Clair County 12-1.
The victories push the Green Wave’s winning streak to 11 games, with contests pending Tuesday against Montevallo and Carver-Birmingham.
Game 1: Leeds 12, Ashville 0
Jarod Latta went four innings, allowing two hits and no runs in a mercy-rule game to start the tournament. Caden Belter came on in relief to finish the shutout. Peyton Moore went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored twice, while Conner Nelson went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Caden Vance went 1-for-2 with an RBI and scored twice, while A.J. Gallant scored three times. Will Landers went 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs and scored twice, while Andrew Howard was 1-for-1 with a walk, an RBI and scored.
Game 2: Leeds 12, St. Clair County 1
It looked like a contest early as the Saints and Green Wave entered the third inning tied 1-1, but a six-run third inning followed by a five-run fourth inning put St. Clair County away with the mercy rule after five innings.
Andrew Howard got the win, going four innings and allowing one run on three hits, striking out seven. Jarod Latta pitched the final inning, allowing no hits, no walks, and striking out two.
Alex Bradford went 2-for 3 with an RBI and a walk, and scored twice. Peyton Moore went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and scored, while Conner Nelson went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Caden Vance was 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI and scored twice. Will Landers went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and scored twice. Latta had an RBI and scored once, while Devin Sanders went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs and scored once.
